The Broward county courthouse requires you to supply a #10 (business size) envelope with your return address and first class postage. The envelope will be used to return your marriage license to you after it has been legally recorded by the clerk of the courts. If you do not bring an envelope and stamp with you, the court house will sell them to you for one dollar.

The fee for a regular marriage license is $93.50. A couple has the option to take a premarital course. If a course is completed, the license fee will be reduced and the license is effective the same day as issued. The reduced fee marriage license is $61.00 and requires that premarital course certificates from registered course providers be presented at the time of application. Fees are payable in cash, credit card, cashiers check or money order made payable to the clerk of courts. No personal checks are accepted at any courthouse.

Identification requirements are: One form of federal or state government issued photo I.D. which has the correct legal name, correct date of birth and signature. For this we will accept one of the following:

  • Driver's License
  • Passport
  • Military I.D.
  • State Identification Card
  • Alien Registration Card

No expired I.D. will be accepted.

Although you do not have to show your Social Security Card, you must know your social security identification number.

  • IMPORTANT *** If Either the bride or groom is a Florida resident, there is a three day waiting period after the marriage license is obtained before a ceremony may be performed.
  • The waiting period is waived if BOTH the Bride and Groom are NOT Florida residents, or the couple has taken a premarital course from a registered course provider

There are no blood tests required.

You do not need to be a resident of this county or the State of Florida to obtain a Marriage license.

Marriage licenses are valid for sixty (60) days from the date of issue.

If previously married, the exact date of death, divorce or annulment of the last marriage is required.

Any applicant under the age of eighteen (18) must have the consent of both parents, regardless of the fact that they may be divorced. Consent forms may be obtained from this office. If one parent is deceased, a certified copy of the death certificate is required. Proof of age and parents are required. This may be done with a certified copy of the persons birth certificate.

No witnesses are required for a marriage ceremony.

If you need a certified copy of a marriage license dial (954) 731-7000 Extension 7841.

To Obtain your license by mail, Brevard County courthouse offers a license by mail application process. Since postal delays and courthouse high workloads may occur, please start the application process at least six weeks prior to the expected date of your wedding ceremony.

Even though the application fee cannot be received by the courthouse more than sixty days ahead of your ceremony date, you can send your preliminary information sheet at any time before the sixty day period.

A license issued by Brevard county or any other Florida county may be used for a wedding ceremony anywhere in Florida. It just has to be returned back to the issuing county after the ceremony to be registered in that county's records.

Download the information sheet and instructions at the following link, or call Celebrations at (954)763-5540 or e-mail Celebrations for more information.
